Pilgrimage
A pilgrimage is a spiritual journey to a sacred place that a person makes in the hope of encountering the Divine. Christian pilgrimages began to be made to places associated with the life, death and resurrection of Christ shortly after his ascension. This tradition soon spread to other sacred sites around the world.
The pilgrimage to La Peña is a pious walk to meet the Mother of the Lord. The natural environment of La Peña allows visitors to enter into an atmosphere of prayer and spirituality. The hike to the sanctuary generally takes about half an hour from km 17 of the Pasto Ipiales road. There are also other trails from km 18 and also from the Páramo trail. There are three main places to visit: the oratory where the image of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is venerated, the Grotto of the Moon Rock, known as the center of the Sanctuary, and the Santa Cruz de la Peña from where you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the sector.
Additionally you can venerate the Nazareth Reliquary that contains votive offerings and relics from the Holy Land, which have been collected and acquired for this Oratory.
I want to visit the Virgin!
